Common questions
- What should a parish text its parishioners?
- The most useful parish texts are practical: weekend and Holy Day Mass times, schedule changes, Confession and Adoration times, faith formation and OCIA reminders, liturgical minister schedules, and gracious notes about the offertory or a second collection. Keep each one short and send it from a real person.
- Is texting allowed for a Catholic parish?
- Yes, as long as parishioners have opted in and you honor opt-outs. US carriers require A2P 10DLC registration to text reliably, which a texting platform handles for you. Parishes are tax-exempt nonprofits, so they qualify for the lower-cost Charity registration.
- How is this different from a parish email or bulletin?
- A text gets read in minutes, where a bulletin or email often waits. Texting is best for time-sensitive reminders (a Mass change, a Holy Day, a sign-up closing) and for two-way replies, so a parishioner can answer right back.
