🎁 Stewardship & giving call scripts

The most powerful stewardship call has no ask in it at all. These scripts lead with gratitude, which builds far more trust than any appeal.

Who you're calling: first-time and faithful givers, with a thank-you rather than a request.

First-time giver thank-you

Hi [Name], this is [Your name] from [Church]. I saw you gave for the first time recently, and I just wanted to call and say thank you. Your generosity goes straight into [ministry]. There's no ask on this call at all, just gratitude. Thank you, [Name]!

Never use a thank-you call to solicit. The no-ask is the whole point.

Year-end gratitude

Hi [Name], [Your name] from [Church]. As the year wraps up, I wanted to personally thank you for your faithfulness. You helped make [something specific] happen this year. We're grateful for you. Have a blessed [holiday]!

Campaign pledge follow-up

Hi [Name], it's [Your name] from [Church]. Thank you for your commitment to [campaign]. I'm just checking in to see if you have any questions, and to say how grateful we are for your partnership. ...

Run these calls in Vesperbell

A script is the easy part. Vesperbell is how you actually work the list without losing anyone.

  1. 1 Build the call queue. Build a queue of the week's first-time givers, or a year-end queue of your faithful givers.
  2. 2 Work the list from the softphone. Each person comes up with their name and recent history, so you're never calling cold.
  3. 3 Log the outcome in one tap. Reached, no answer, or call back later, plus a quick note. "Call back later" drops them back in the queue for the right day.
  4. 4 Let the misses follow themselves up. Set a workflow so a no-answer automatically sends a warm text, so no one slips through.

Common questions

Should churches call people who give?
Yes, to thank them, not to ask for more. A genuine thank-you call with no solicitation builds trust and is strongly tied to people continuing to give.
Isn't calling about giving awkward?
Only if you ask for money. Keep these calls purely grateful and specific about the impact, and they land as encouragement, not pressure.
